Newquay Watersports Centre is looking for a motivated Watersports Instructor to join our coastal activities team.
This is a hands-on role working on and around the water, supporting and leading a wide range of coastal activities and centre-based work. You don’t need to hold formal qualifications to apply: experience, enthusiasm and the right attitude matter just as much. Training and development will be provided, and this role offers a genuine pathway into further qualifications and progression.
The Role
You’ll assist and, as your skills develop, lead coastal-based activity sessions. Sessions operate from our harbour base and nearby coastal locations and may include:
- Paddlesports
- Coasteering
- Other water-based experiences
You’ll work with a huge variety of clients, including:
- Schools and youth groups
- Military groups
- Corporate and team-building groups
- Adaptive and inclusive sessions
- Families and individuals
No two days are the same, and adaptability is key.

- Confident working with people of all ages and abilities
- Passionate about the coastline, sustainability, and protecting the environments we work in
Qualifications & Experience (Desirable, Not Essential)
Surf or Beach Lifeguard, Surf Coach Safety or Rescue is the qualification we love! You do not need qualifications to apply, but if you don’t currently hold them, then relevant experience is essential (personal, recreational, or professional), and you should be keen to train and progress.
Qualifications we particularly value (but are not required):
- Surf or Beach Lifeguard
- Surf Coach Safety or Rescue Award
- Paddlesports Leader, Sea Kayak Leader or Coastal SUP Leader
- Outdoor First Aid
Desirable (Not Essential)
Any of the following would be a bonus:
- Surf coaching qualifications
- NCC Guide qualification
- Lifeguard or water safety training
- Adaptive or inclusive activity experience
- Teaching, coaching, training, or assessing qualifications
- An interest in progressing towards water-based trainer and assessment roles
- WiSE Adventure or Leave No Trace training

Contract & Hours
- Part-time contract initially, with scope to increase to full-time for the right person
- Seasonal and longer-term opportunities available
Freelance Opportunities
We are always on the lookout for freelance instructors who hold relevant qualifications. We have dates available in June and July that we can get you booked onto straight away, and more coming as bookings come through. There are also free Instructor CPD days available that we can get you booked onto to get you season-ready!
